Hello World

Greetings from Jeff's new weblog! Old computers, domestic fowl, and wild conservatism will predominate.

Although, to be sure, it's hard to tell. I don't really have any long-term plans for this other than to force myself to write a bit more, and perhaps read a bit less.

This moveable type blog is running Solaris 8 on Chiron, a Sun Ultra2, 2x200Mhz with 256Mb memory, using Postgres as the backend datastore.

This is the fastest and most reliable of the fifteen or so computers in my stable.

The installation took some time, until I figured out the magic of CPAN.pm. This is a utility designed to automate the installation of perl modules, able to resolve dependencies on the fly. The command line for this (once CPAN.pm is installed) is the following:

perl -MCPAN -eshell
